His love of trees and plants has extended beyond apple trees to include over 150 varieties of viburnums which flourish in his huge bush garden. In the fertile orchard country around Stanley in Victoria’s North East Michel has identified a huge range of apples which thrive in northern European style conditions with cold winters and plentiful rains. Over the last hundred years or so many French citrus fruit farmers settled near Stanley and planted apple trees while looking for gold where Michel now lives.
